Fixed Bridges

Looking to replace missing teeth with a permanent solution? Fixed bridges provide a durable and effective way to restore your smile and functionality.

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance designed to replace missing teeth. The most common type, the “traditional bridge,” consists of two crowns that cover the anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are connected to artificial teeth (pontics) that fill the gap left by missing teeth. Traditional bridges are often made of porcelain fused to metal, providing both strength and a natural appearance.

Reasons for getting a fixed bridge include:

  • Filling the space of missing teeth
  • Maintaining facial shape
  • Preventing remaining teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restoring chewing and speaking ability
  • Enhancing your smile
  • Upgrading from a removable partial denture to a permanent appliance

The process usually requires two or more visits. During the first visit, the anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of enamel to accommodate the crowns. We take precise impressions of your teeth, which are sent to a dental laboratory to create the bridge. You will wear a temporary bridge until your next appointment.

At the second visit, the permanent bridge is carefully checked for fit, adjusted as needed, and cemented into place. In some cases, your dentist may initially place the bridge with temporary cement to ensure proper fit and adjust if necessary before permanently cementing it. You will receive care instructions to help maintain your new bridge through proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits.
