Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive treatment that brightens the color of your natural tooth enamel, enhancing your smile.

As whiter teeth become a top aesthetic concern for many, various methods for whitening are available. The most popular is a home whitening system, which can dramatically improve your smile. However, teeth whitening only works on natural enamel, so old fillings, crowns, and other restorations may need to be replaced afterward to match the new shade. Whitening isn’t permanent, and touch-ups might be needed every few years, especially if you smoke or drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Reasons for Teeth Whitening:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
  • Normal wear of the outer tooth layer
  • Stained teeth due to medications (e.g., tetracycline)
  • Yellow or brown-stained teeth

What Does Teeth Whitening Involve? The process typically requires two visits. First, impressions of your teeth will be taken to create custom, clear plastic trays. During the second visit, you’ll try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with a whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on the degree of staining and the desired level of whitening. Some sensitivity may occur but will subside shortly after whitening ends.

You’ll receive care instructions for your teeth and trays and are encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to maintain a bright, healthy smile.
